Undergrand is a portable baby grand piano experience set in nature, creating intimate, wordless spaces for deep listening, reflection, and connection. Born from a desire to slow festivals down and offer a counterpoint to high-intensity sound systems, Undergrand invites people to stumble into a sanctuary — often hidden slightly off the main path — where time softens and attention returns.

The piano is placed outdoors, tuned to the landscape and the moment, and brought to life by local musicians, improvisers, and collaborators. No schedules, no announcements — just continuous, evolving music that responds to who arrives, the weather, the light, and the energy of the land.

Undergrand works best at multi-day festivals, gatherings, and retreats where people are open to wandering, listening, and being surprised. The project prioritises collaboration with local artists and minimal infrastructure, allowing it to integrate gently into bush clearings, river edges, paddocks, and hidden corners of festival sites.

The vibe is grounded, spacious, and quietly transformative — a place to land between dances, to breathe, to cry, to lie in the grass, or to simply listen. Undergrand isn’t a stage or a show; it’s an offering. A reminder that softness, attention, and beauty are essential parts of underground culture too.

Based in Pōneke, Emile Commarieu (Kāi Tahu, Ngāpuhi) has been a lighting
designer/technician under the name emcom since 2023. A child of Tāmaki
Makaurau’s punk scene, emcom is the current resident lighting designer
for Froth, and has worked alongside VJ Cubeman, Ghost Media, Safehouse
and many other promotional companies across the capital.

emcom enjoys ensuring dancers are looking their best, as well as mixing

tension and the immense relief when darkness becomes euphoric, emcom
can make any crowd move and dance their asses off through the night.

Hi, I’m VJ Cubeman — Darrell Smith if we’re being formal.
I work in that space where sound turns visual — filming DJs,
projection-mapping architecture, and creating light-driven environments
that transform ordinary rooms into immersive experiences.

A veteran of the New Zealand music and arts industries, my visuals have
become the backdrop for some of the country’s best parties. I’ve
designed the look and feel for hundreds of events — from underground
club nights and festivals to major national moments like Matariki 2022
for Māori Television and Ahi Kā for Wellington City Council.

But just as importantly, I support the grassroots. I often lend my
skills to community-driven events, like the “Famous for Five” roving
party in Pukerua Bay — backing the battlers, the dreamers, and the
artists grinding in the salt mines of creativity alongside me.

I was honoured to receive Best New Visual Artist at Rhythm & Vines
2022, and I continue to collaborate with other artists, including Rachie
Campbell, where we combine digital art, 2D design, and projection
mapping to build exhibitions and VJ-led experiences across Wellington.

I’m here to connect with creatives, collaborators, and future projects —
people who believe in transforming spaces, elevating music culture, and
pushing immersive art forward in Aotearoa.

I love live music. So I oriented my mahi around being able to emerse
myself in it. I do my best to let my musicality show through my lighting
design and operating, knowing the primary mission objective it to
highlight moments and ride the dynamics and energy of the stage.

I've worked a wide variety of types of live events and do my best to
take that experience and channel into cool passionate musical projects.

I've worked with some of the country's best technicians, and learnt a lot
 from every experience.

I've gone by Rabid Foam since I first started shaping surfboards—using
leftover polystyrene to create sculptures and discovering a passion for
giving new life to discarded materials.

Over time, as my work grew in scale and ambition, so did the need for
collaboration. Many of my larger projects now rely on the creativity,
skill, and support of talented teams. Rabid Foam has come to represent
that collective energy.

At the core, though, I’m Hamish—a product designer, builder, and artist
driven by a love for sculpting bold, expressive forms that invite
curiosity and connection.

My favourite thing in the world is to contribute to projects that create
positive change in people’s lives —where we care, build community, and
real alchemy happens. Aotearoa is where my passion for photography grew
into my artform, and Twisted Frequency 2024 holds a very special place
in my heart.

Through photography and videography I capture what sparks something in
me, hoping it will connect to those who are watching so they can get a
glimpse of the experience. I specialise in event photography (festivals
and retreats) and brand and artist shoots. I do my best to capture the
special moments while respecting people’s boundaries.

I also create branding and marketing combining my background in
International Business and Economics (Degree at UPF Barcelona) and
Graphic Design (Master’s EINA Barcelona). With the same goal: to help
meaningful projects thrive.

I’ve worked with festivals (like Twisted Frequency or Dimension), bands
(like Hang Massive), retreats, entrepreneurs and businesses worldwide.

· Where to find me ·
When possible, I work online.
For photography and videography, I’m traveling around the world —get in
touch to see if our dates match. At the moment I am in Tāmaki Makaurau
(Auckland) for summer and I plan to be back in Europe for summer there.

· What languages do I work with ·
English, Catalan and Spanish.

Stacey is a Freelance Photographer based in Mangawhai.

Stacey specialises in Weddings, Festivals, Events, Portraits, Branding & Women’s Empowerment Shoots.

“One of my favourite things about photography is capturing a side of someone
that they’re unable to see themselves. To show them the sparkle that
others see that they often miss when they look in the mirror.”

“I also love to capture the beauty in tiny moments, life is so fleeting
and photographs to me are little moments preserved in time forever.

Special
moments between people highlighting connection and love, pure joy,
dance & laughter that make life worth celebrating.”

“I believe that photography is not just about taking pictures, but about telling stories and preserving moments.”

I've been a qualified builder since about 2019, and an artist my whole
life really.

So when I combined the two parts at Twisted Frequency in
2020 I ended up building the main stage and from there the projects kept
 on rolling.

I specialise in working with timber. I love creating out of
natural materials, and creating something that has a life of its own.
