Mumu Moore is a Wellington-based artist who practices Taonga Pūoro sound meditation and works as a filmmaker. His connection to the Atua, which are spiritual entities present in nature and everyday life, inspired his journey with Taonga Pūoro and meditation. His meditation practice incorporates karakia, the sounds of Taonga Pūoro, and pūrakau (Māori storytelling) to create a transformative and relaxing experience.

For over five years, Mumu has been dedicated to the field of guided meditation. He has facilitated group meditations and offered one-on-one sound healing sessions, using his expertise to help people access a deeper state of relaxation and spiritual transformation.

"Infinite Aroha with Mumu" is a  guided meditation that incorporates the mesmerising sounds of Taonga Pūoro, traditional Māori instruments. This journey will take you from the dawn of time to the present, immersing you in ancient vibrations that will lead you deeper into your heart space.

Allow yourself to rediscover the forgotten parts of yourself, to reconnect with your past and explore your unknown future, to tune in to the sensations of your body, or simply to find inner peace.
Our Wananga begins with a circle and some gentle movements to release any tension in the body, followed by the option to either sit or lie down for the meditation.

As we come to the end of our practice, we will gather in a small circle to close this sacred space.

Hosted by Mark McPherson of Found and Carved, explore the realms of Pounamu in an informal, interactive open space in the Art Gallery area. Pounamu Fields

Kick off the DOJO club night with a deep-dive into the queer roots of dance music! The crews from Queer Horizons and Tender Buttons will explore the ways in which queer culture has shaped the electronic music scene, from the DIY anarchists of the underground to the afrofuturistic philosophies of techno, the influence of ballroom and drag on rave culture, and how the intersection of queerness, race and class has brought us the sounds that we all find liberation in today. This will be a fun and informal kōrero, functioning as an opportunity to learn, a space to be creative, and a place to make new queer friends at Twisted.



The Queer History of Dance Culture

Join us for an enlightening workshop that bridges the gap between yoga philosophy and therapeutic effect. This session aims to equip listeners with the skills to enhance body awareness, identify sensations, and address back pain effectively. 

The workshop is divided into two key segments. The first segment provides a deeper understanding of the anatomy and physiology of back pain. Therapeutic understanding is complemented by insights into yoga practice, emphasizing conscious awareness and somatic release through Asana (poses) and Pranayama (breath work). 

 The second segment features a dynamic Vinyasa-Krama yoga flow and a restorative Yoga Nidra meditation, designed to integrate and apply the insights gained. 

This workshop provides practical tools for self-care and a holistic approach to managing back pain, making it valuable for both personal practice and general well-being.

BODY MOVEMENT REVOLUTION - Manahau Embodied Movement 


The waterways of Mohua (Golden Bay), including the Takaka River that winds through Twisted’s festival grounds, are some of the most precious remaining waterways in the world - he taonga tūturu; true treasures. Among them, Te Waikoropupū Springs shine as the crown jewel, home to the clearest waters ever recorded, a symbol of purity and transformation. These waters transmute so much energy during the festival season, we have witnessed people who have been up all night completely transformed after bathing in the awa that runs alongside the Twisted site.


And so, in the face of mounting threats to these sacred waters, we invite you to a workshop and film screening to explore how we can respond to the crisis unfolding here. The waters recently gained a small victory with a Water Conservation Order that shields them from the rise in nitrogen levels due to industrial land use—but the threat has only deepened. Siren Gold, an Australian mining company, now plans to open a gold mine at Sam’s Creek, in a valley just a stone’s throw from the festival grounds. This site, rich in arsenic-laden rock, feeds into the aquifer that sustains Te Waikoropupū Springs. A mine here would spell disaster for the waters of Mohua.


The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Timothy Firkin and ‘Save our Springs” coordinator Kevin Moran. Where we will update everyone on the current status of the campaign and how they can join in the resistance. Kevin will also be reciting shamanic poetry, backed by live instrumentation as an invocation and offering for our wai. Timothy Firkin - is an Aotearoa-born Mãori documentary filmmaker and environmental activist who has a strong commitment and vision to create purpose-driven stories that serve to raise awareness about, and offer solutions to, the myriad environmental threats our natural world faces. Kevin Fiadh Moran - a staunch water protector, activist, writer and shamanic poet, has coordinated the Save Our Springs (SOS) Campaign since 2017.

DJ Workshop for newcomers, prioritising the FLINTA* Community (an acronym for female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people, *highlights all gender and non-gender). 


What you can expect:
This DJ introduction workshop run by and for FLINTA* offers a safe space to dive into the world of DJing. We will explain the technical basics of DJing and let you put the skills you have learnt into practice. 


We aim to give our FLINTA* community a comfortable environment and platform to meet new people, gain experience and play around in the booth!


We will give you a 1-2 hour introduction into mixing and afterwards time to practice together for 1-2 hours, where everyone will get the chance to do some transitions guided or alone. 


This workshop aims to create a safe space to get in touch with DJing, aiming to diversify the DJ scene and just have fun, connect and play around in the booth.

Do you think we are the most intelligent species, or the only one that has culture?

Humpback whale songs are among the most striking examples of animal culture. They are long and have a complex hierarchical structure. Only male humpbacks sing, and the songs constantly evolve, but at any given time all males in the same population sing the same version of the song. How do they learn their songs and why do these songs evolve?

Canticum Megapterae – Song of the Humpback Whale is an award-winning electronic music album made through collaboration with artists from all over the world. Canticum Megapterae II – The Evolution is continuing the story of the first album and diving deeper into the research about whale song culture by drawing parallels with the evolution of music.

Through this presentation you will learn about the science behind these albums and hear some underwater recordings and music inspired by whale songs.


Biography:

Sara Niksic a.k.a. Inner Child is a marine biologist, ecologist, bioacoustician, musician, music producer, storyteller and educator. Her research has taken her from her homeland of Croatia to Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, California and New Caledonia. For over a decade she has been studying marine mammals, with a special focus on their vocal communication, social learning and culture, as well as developing innovative approaches to science education through art. 

Sara is the founder of Inner Child, an interdisciplinary project that connects the worlds of music, art and science. Through her Inner Child Music record label she released a few albums of her own music, as well as compilations on which she collaborated with some of the top producers in the electronic music scene. Her award-winning music with whale songs has been archived by the British Library and featured in the global media including The New Yorker, Whalebone Magazine and BBC Radio.
