Darkroom is a small, independently owned, grassroots music venue in Central Christchurch, which welcomes local and touring musicians of all genres, experience, and ability levels to perform.

Darkroom

Established in 2011 shortly after the earthquakes, when the red zone cordon was still a mere 200m down the road, Darkroom was one of the first creative spaces to open to help fill the void after the earthquakes led to the closure of so many of our city's venues. More than 14 years later, Darkroom continues to play an important part in our city’s post-quake creative landscape, welcoming local and touring musicians of all genres, experience, and ability levels to perform. Alongside live band shows, the venue also hosts cabaret shows, book launches, poetry nights, artist development sessions and more. Darkroom shares its building with an artist run art gallery called Art Hole, and a recording studio managed by Moonbase Record Collective.
