Pōneke Party Guardians
Urban event care team
Wellington/Te Whanganui-a-Tara

Our team provides extra sets of eyes and ears on the dancefloor, ready to support anyone who is overwhelmed or intoxicated, to encourage consent-based interactions, and to manage situations that require attention, but don’t require the involvement of medics or security. This frees up venue staff, event organisers and security to focus on their own roles. We’ll be roaming your event in pink hi-vis vests, ready to check on or support anyone who needs it. We have two main areas of focus; drug harm reduction, and consent education. Drug harm reduction We work on evidence-based principles which acknowledge the reality of drug use at gigs and parties. This means we want gig-goers to make safe, informed decisions about their drug use, and we will offer non-judgmental support to anyone who needs it. Consent education We encourage consent in all interactions, as this is what gives a dancefloor a safe and welcoming feel. We encourage event organisers to promote messaging around respecting each others’ boundaries and autonomy on the dancefloor. Part of our role is to be a visible, friendly reminder of that kaupapa, as well as checking in, and if necessary intervening, on situations that seem uncomfortable or unsafe.
