Keith (AKA Root Basis) is the musical manifestation of Lachlan Mears. Born from the insatiable desire to express without limits, Keith is right at home testing, tweaking and tinkering with new ways to manipulate sound. With their first full-length self-released album “In a Crockpot” bringing them global attention in 2022, they further cemented their sound with a string of experimental psycore and slambient contributions to international labels The Endless Knot and Khnum Crew, with a second full-length release in 2025 on Turkish label Metacortex Records. While widely known in the Aotearoa underground for experimental trance flavours, 2026 marked the beginning of a new exploration of the intersection between slambient and deep tekno with their EP “Ghost Train” on Tāmaki based Abyssal Soundworks, which has seen support from Spekki Webu and Raär.
