If you’ve ever seen the band H4LF CĀST playing live, then you will know this is not your ordinary Friday night down at the pub. H4LF CĀST is the spine-tingling band that has taken the windy city by storm. Starting up in 2018, the group came onto the scene with some super fresh mauri that took the city by surprise – and now this Roots, Soul, Reggae & Hip-Hop band are seriously turning up the heat in the music scene of Aotearoa, and tastefully doing it with a Kaupapa Māori twist. Over the last 4 years, H4LF CĀST has created a potent epicenter of indigenous live music in Poneke, and they are undoubtedly burning at the spearhead of Authentic Live Music Experiences here in Aotearoa. The H4LF CĀST rhythm section, Jason Rapana & Keanu Te Kawa, was forged in the backstreets of Lower Hutt. They grew up together playing music in worship groups – Jason, from Taita, on bass and Keanu, from Stokes Valley, on drums. After a decade of musical synergy, the Lower Hutt duo are now one of Wellington's most notorious rhythm sections. Joseph Jenkins is the masterful lead guitarist of the group. He is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist with the sharpest pair of ears on the Kapiti Coast. Joseph brings an entrancing psychedelic sound to the band with his wide array of tones and techniques. And Nikau Te Huki is the full powered frontman you can't take your eyes off. A Descendant of Kahungunu, raised on the Kāpiti Coast, a true musical warrior. Nikau’s father was a hard-working musician who showed his son the many moving parts of the musical world, and he has taken this wisdom and run with it. With the inspiration of his two young children and loving whānau, Nikau is an unstoppable creative force who gives his absolute all into each moment on stage. What makes H4LF CĀST so special is the band's ability to unite the audience through the power of honest music. Bearing resemblance to Bob Marley and the Wailers, these four young men use the stage as a meeting house to congregate the people and encourage a healing experience through the power of vulnerable expression. The H4LF CĀST crew operate as a family and this feeling of whanaungatanga is the key to their success. In other words, H4LF CĀST is a Hori-Prophecy with a rocksteady groove that can get any crowd moving to the delicious sounds of their original music. After taking a small break to focus on family, the band is now reformed and ready to solidify their place in the Aotearoa Music Scene. With a debut album in the works, the band is ready to build upon their unique discography in the lead up to the release of their first record.
