Introducing Tina,
Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Pōrou, Ngāti Kahungunu, Kai Tahu, Pākehā (she/they/ia). Takatāpui/super duper queer sweetie.
I treat my mahi toi practice as rongoa. My patterns come from the marama, the whenua, the taiao (natures, us). I try not to think much when I’m painting with the marama (moon). I treat it as practice that gets me out of my hinengaro (mind), and honours the rest of me. I also love painting portraits of loved ones.
I pick colours that look cool and cheerful. They remind me of the colours I see in the taiao. The surfaces I paint are found in my local, everyday environment - nikau from the backyard, found boxes the supermarket, and stuff i've grown. I hope to inspire and reactivate mātauranga Māori and our relationship with Papatūanuku and all of our natural environment.
