Mysticstate
We caught up with Mysticstate, we talk music, community, Moth Club, and touring.

Mystic State, hailing from the vibrant city of Bristol, UK, is a tour-de-force in electronic music production, forged from the creative minds of Will Marquiss and Mike Holliday. The duo is celebrated for their crystal-clear productions that are immediately identifiable, marked by a signature blend that captures the essence of late 90's jungle, dub, and ambient sounds, woven with film dialogue and meticulously placed samples that evoke a rich, textured soundscape.
These guys are no stranger to throwing down big bass in the Cobb. The excitement to hear what they bring us this year is very high so we thought we’d catch up with them ahead of their Aotearoa tour this summer!

Why do you guys do what you do?
We do what we do out of a passion for all things music, art and community. The power of people coming together to appreciate higher forces! Music is life.
How would you describe your sound at the moment and what are you excited to bring down to the Cobb this year?
We would describe where we are at the moment as an eclectic dive into underground music, a soundtrack inspired by our peers, cinema, travel and diversity within our beloved communities.
We are especially grateful for the opportunity to come and play some brand new music from ourselves that no one has heard yet, dubs from friends and music old and new that we know will move you. We play sets from 130-170bpm with a mix of dance floor bass driven cuts to deeper sonics.
We can't wait to hear the Moth Club presentation - tell us a bit about the label and what you've been up to recently?
The label is a constant organic evolution inspired by our love for contemporary art and expression through exciting bass driven music. We have recently had some amazing releases from Synkro, Mystic State & Tellus and welcome new members to the label in 2026 with some exciting releases planned. We are excited to be playing a special TMC set at Twisted this year also.

Do you have a standout Twisted memory?
Jumping into the crystal clear waters! Look after the river people !!! But also playing the Main stage in the day in 2024, still one of our favourite sets we’ve ever played anywhere - such an incredible crowd.
What attracts you to continue being so involved in the Aotearoa scene and come back here for New Years?
Your love for life, indigenous culture and underground music. Inspiring to say the least…

What's the plan for your journey here this year aside from Twisted?
We have a 12 show tour in Jan/feb all over Aotearoa presented by Tyanhaus - check out the socials for more info and tickets!
Do you have a favourite sound system memory and what's your ideal kinda rig to play?
Jah Shaka every time we’ve seen him RIP a great and also Aba at Notting Hill carnival every year…
But as long as it’s running we don’t mind what kind of rig it is!! Haha! Big up all crews!!
