Jungle, Strictly138/Acetate/Rongotai Hi Fi/Reggae Vibes (NZ)
Thief was once described by a friend as "like a party DJ who doesn't play any bangers". They went on to add, "I'm not sure how he does it". And to be honest, neither is Thief - but rest assured, if you're there... something will happen.
Thief's two feet are firmly in the underground, where he has, from time to time, had the privilege of selecting riddims on some of NZ's heaviest custom-built Sound Systems. Before migrating south for the winter of his DJing career, Thief used to run in Wellington with the Strictly138 and Acetate crews, played with a bunch of choice people, held down a slot on the Homebass radio show and built and operated the Rongotai Hi Fi Sound System until it burned down.
Also, if you've ever been to a gig where Theif was playing, then yeah, you've seen Thief. Spelling is hard.
Although Thief hasn't bought any new records for a couple of years, there's still a few good ones lurking in his dusty crates. And one time Thief wrote a poem about a landslide before it happened. So maybe his sets are a bit like that.
