Auckland, New Zealand based Resonate is a long-term passionate music lover with a background steeped in reggae, dub, funk and dubstep just to name a few. Resonate fell in love with deep dubstep in her early 20s after hearing Optimus Grymes Eclipse LP and some TRUTH tracks. Having never had the opportunity to learn to play Resonate bit the bullet and bought some second hand CDJs in 2014 with some advice from Waiheke based DJ One40, moved to Waiheke and started bedroom DJing. It wasn’t long before she was opening for one of her heroes, Truth, in a b2b set with One40 at Sandbar on Waiheke as Resonate and became a regular support act there. Now regarded by me (Jaime Small) as one of the best dub DJs in the country, I was easily mistaken last year for thinking Resonate had been DJing her whole adult life.
