Yo, Twisted Freaks!
I didn't want to get someone else to write nice things about me and it felt weird writing in third-person so here's a little story about my musical journey.
I started out in music by freestyle rapping with some mates for a bit of a laugh at the age of 16 which led to freestyling alone and experimenting with different instrumentals. At 18, I began to DJ at house parties and at 19 started to play some local drum&bass gigs under the name on my birth certificate: Tobias. During this time I had the pleasure of supporting some international acts including Mr. Traumatik, Bou & Kaz, Simula & TC, Ownglow, and Tsuki (throwing around the occasional half-time, dub, or garage track to keep it interesting) and playing at some small festivals I'd been attending around the South Island, delving deeper into mixing dub and psytrance.
Since then, I've spent the last two years studying audio at MAINZ, learning how to produce music and the basics of studio and live sound engineering with the firm hand of the coronavirus keeping me studio-locked. My new experimental alias, GL!TCH is designed to channel my eclectic taste into an arrangement of acoustic and electric textures, drawing inspiration from psychedelic dub and glitched out breakbeats as well as artists like Truth, Paige Julia, Grouch, Body Ocean, and The Upbeats. I'm super excited to share with you some original pieces, curated throughout this period of isolation, as well as some of my favourite tunes and exclusives. See yas in the dance!
